Stan Cook & Family
Headquarters
Located deep in the heart of the Irish Loop (yet only a 45 minute drive from St. John's) is the renowned sea kayak destination of Cape Broyle. We have converted a 120 year old provincially recognized heritage structure - the R.J. O'Brien General Store Premises - into our headquarters with washrooms, change-rooms and other facilities. We offer wetsuits, paddling jackets and pants, neoprene gloves and other extras to our clients. A return St. John's - Cape Broyle shuttle is offered daily and departs in the morning and returns that evening.
Staff
Stan Cook Sea Kayak Adventures is a family owned and operated business. Owner and head guide Stan Cook, a recently retired physical education instructor, has been professionally offering wilderness adventures since 1970. His top priority has always been safety and decades of wilderness travel has taught him a lot. Stan believes in personalized service with one (1) guide for every six (6) clients. That's a 1 to 6 safety ratio!
Our knowledgeable staff is specially trained to keep you comfortable and are always nearby for your safety and assistance. Guides are always aware of guest safety, are trained in Wilderness First Aid, and carry safety equipment. Their love and respect for our unique environment and enjoyment of people as well as their high levels of education in marine biology, geology and natural history differentiate them from other guides.
Our staff will lead you through onshore orientation showing the necessary basics, such as paddle strokes, and safety techniques. We offer top quality single and double kayaks, as well some specially designed kayaks that have a third hatch allowing us to take children too young to paddle. No eskimo rolls are required!
Irish Loop
The Irish Loop is known for its spectacular wilderness surroundings, vistas, whales, icebergs, and sea birds. It is along our shores that North America's largest populations of whales come to feed during the summer months. On many trips guests paddle along these majestic creatures. From June to mid August, our adventures have a whale viewing success rate of over 90%. We've often seen several dozen humpback, minke and other whales swim alongside the kayaks. These gentle, curious and playful creatures offer some of the most outstanding life experiences for our guests.
